About Capstone Consulting

Capstone Consulting is a boutique M&A advisory firm dedicated to helping business owners in the lower middle market ($5M–$50M in revenue) prepare for and execute successful exits. I founded the firm in 2025 around a simple but rare principle in the world of business sales: put the seller first.

The Journey Here

I hold a Business Administration degree from Sam Houston State University. But my business education began long before graduation. While still in school, I was working full-time in my family’s company, Industrial Safety Products in Bryan, Texas selling PPE and safety equipment, and performing services like fire extinguisher maintenance, kitchen fire suppression inspections, and first aid services.

In 2013, I bought the service division of that company from my father and made it my own. Over the next several years, I acquired and operated several small businesses, but fire protection remained the core. It was during those years of buying, selling, and managing businesses firsthand that I learned the term “business broker.” That introduction to the M&A world sparked a curiosity: I realized I enjoyed the process of buying and selling businesses more than operating them, and I started to wonder if this could be something I leaned into more intentionally.

Learning the Right Way to Sell Businesses

As I explored the M&A industry, I began learning from the Texas Association of Business Brokers. But early encounters were disheartening. Most conversations revolved around selling yogurt shops or gas stations. There's nothing wrong with that, but it wasn’t exactly the kind of thing that fired me up to start my day.

That changed when I met Bill Bumstead, a legend in the industry who modeled something entirely different. Bill treated clients not like sales prospects but like patients in need of a skilled, honest doctor. That mindset of serving as a fiduciary, not a salesman struck a chord with me. I asked to work for Bill for free. Instead, he gave me a job.

I began my formal M&A career under Bill in 2018 at Advocates Business Consultants (ABC). After his wife tragically passed from COVID in 2020, I continued working independently under the ABC banner. The work was rewarding until the rise in interest rates in early 2023 dramatically slowed deal activity and led me to rethink how sell-side M&A could be done.

Building Something Better

That slowdown sparked a new idea. I launched Brazos Bookkeeping, a firm built with business sellers in mind, offering not just monthly bookkeeping and reports but long-term advisory support to help owners prepare for a sale years in advance. This integration of bookkeeping and valuation services became the seed of what I would later call the ValuePath framework.

In June 2023, I joined The Vant Group in Dallas, an experienced and highly respected M&A firm, to refine my consulting practice and round out my training. My time there was invaluable, but by the end of 2024, I was ready to return to my roots as a founder. Capstone Consulting was born in January 2025.

The Capstone Difference

Capstone pairs with Brazos Bookkeeping to create the ValuePath ecosystem, an all-in-one solution where business owners can get an honest valuation, expert monthly bookkeeping, and honest guidance until the time is truly right to sell. If that means 3 months, great. If it means 3 years, we’ll walk with you every step of the way.

We don't believe in pressure tactics, inflated promises, or chasing commissions. We believe in doing what’s best for the client, period. That philosophy comes straight from my earliest training under Bill Bumstead: act like a doctor, not a salesman. Our clients hear the truth, not just what they want to hear, and we're able to do that because we have the ecosystem in place to follow through on it.

Now in my seventh full year in M&A advisory, I’ve built a strong foundation advising on meaningful transactions, gaining valuable experience, and working with many sharp professionals. But I’m just getting started. With Capstone, I’ve made a long-term commitment to this work, dedicating my career to becoming a world-class M&A consultant for sellers in the lower middle market.
